Manchester United are set to challenge Newcastle in the EFL Cup final on Sunday (26) for the trophy they have been dreaming of for almost six years. Looking back at the glory days of 2017, the championship-winning side of that year is now a different side, with only three players - Rashford, Anthony Madill and Dickie - still in the squad, and Dickie is on course to start for a second consecutive final.

In the 2017 final, Ibe scored twice and Lian Gue contributed a goal in a 3-2 win over Southampton, with those two goalscoring heroes now playing for AC Milan and Nottingham Forest respectively. The regular midfielders of that year, Paul Puba, Anda Silva, and Samada, as well as defenders Marcos Luzou, Keith Smith, and Raul Valencia, have all gone their separate ways, with center-half Alec Bailly even being loaned out to Marseille.

The three replacements that year, Rashford, Carrick and Fellani, Carrick retired in 2018, stayed on briefly as an assistant manager and also acted as an acting manager but has bid farewell to United in December 2021 and is now in charge of Middlesbrough, whilst Fellani has gone away to the Chinese Super League in search of development.

It is worth mentioning that Manchester United not only won the EFL Cup but also the UEFA Cup in 2017. The team recently managed to reach the last 16 of the EHF Cup, and is expected to recreate the glory of the double crown of that year.
