A glorious EFL Cup final kicked off at the crack of dawn on Monday (27th), with Newcastle United and Manchester United battling it out for the title. In this summit clash, whichever team has the last laugh, there is one player who may hold the championship medal in his hand, and that is goalkeeper Dubafka from Slovakia!

Dubafka, 34, spent the first half of the season on loan at Manchester United from Newcastle United and was the starting goalkeeper in the EFL Cup third round and round of 16 matches. However, he was recalled by Newcastle United last month but unfortunately, due to ineligibility for the EFL Cup, Dubafka was unable to feature in the crucial title race even though starting goalkeeper Nick Purby was suspended for the final.

Surprisingly, according to the UK's Daily Mail, Dubafka is likely to receive the winner's medal regardless of whether Manchester United or Newcastle United end up winning the title. This is because the tournament's organizing committee has not placed any restrictions on the eligibility of players to receive medals, and each team has 30 medals that can be freely allocated to coaches and players. Although Newcastle United has used 25 players this season, three of whom have already left, Dubafka still has a chance to "get a piece of the action" even if he doesn't play.
