During the Chinese New Year festival, European soccer giants have been showing their attention to the Chinese market, and English Premier League giants Manchester City are no exception. Recently, Manchester City announced the launch of a limited edition Year of the Rabbit polo shirt, which is not only adorned with an eye-catching rabbit pattern, but also inspired by the 10th anniversary of the successful completion of China's Jade Rabbit probe's mission to the moon.
Created by Manchester City in conjunction with sponsor PUMA, the polo shirt features a deep blue and black color palette with gold trims, signifying the intersection of the blue moon and Chinese culture. In addition to welcoming the Chinese New Year, the collar is cleverly labeled with the geographic coordinates 44.12°N 19.51°W, the exact location where the Jade Rabbit landed on the moon in 2013.
Despite City using star players such as Ainneen, Aarandt and Chiyun Dibny as models for their polo shirts, it still sparked a lot of controversy. Fans were not dissatisfied with the design of the shirt, but rather regretted that the limited edition shirt, which costs a whopping £70, is only for collection and not for official matches. Numerous netizens have expressed their wish for the shirt to be an away match shirt or a third shirt.
