In an unexpected knockout match of the Ligue 1 Cup, French "giants" Nice lost 0-1 to Ligue 3 side Naper, and went out of the tournament. On Monday (9), the club announced the dismissal of Swiss coach Favre, and temporarily assigned Dygatt to take over as caretaker coach.
Nice FC is helmed by British billionaire Ratcliffe, who in recent years has gone on a recruiting spree, bringing in a number of former Premier League stars, including Allan Lance, Kasper Schmidtgall, Buckley, Nicolas Bibby, etc. Together with the original players such as Shunyi Darien, the team has been jokingly dubbed by the fans the "Premier League Outcasts".
Despite the massive reinforcements, Nice's performance has not been satisfactory, and they are currently only ranked 11th in the league. Right after the defeat against Napier in the latest FIFA Cup match, Nice FC released a statement saying, "Favre is no longer the head coach of Nice, and although our partnership is coming to an end, the team will maintain the highest respect for him." Favre took charge of Nice for the second time in June last year, not realizing that he would suffer the fate of dismissal after only six months.
