Nottingham Forest's road to promotion continued after beating Wolves on penalties in the last eight of the EFL Cup. Manchester United loanee goalkeeper Dean Henderson played a key role, first saving Rubin Neves' shot in the penalty shootout, and then saving Tsuruji's shot in the decisive final round to help Forest reach the EFL Cup quarter-finals for the second time since 1992.
However, Forest have suffered bad news in the last four draw. Not only because the opponents are Manchester United, but more importantly, Dean Henderson will be unavailable. Under EFL Cup Regulation 6.3, a loaned player (Dean Henderson) will be barred from playing on the reverse fixture unless the club of origin (Manchester United) agrees in writing that the loanee will play. It is widely expected that United will not give their consent easily, which certainly makes Forest's path to the final more difficult.
Speaking after the game, the Forest manager said: 'The news (Henderson being banned from the pitch) breaks up our celebrations and I'm very disappointed, especially seeing Dean Henderson's performance tonight' ...... Henderson has been a part of Forest for a long time and he has been fully integrated into our family. To learn that he won't be able to play in the last four game has completely spoiled my emotions today."
