In the recently concluded Premier League match, Liverpool unexpectedly lost 1-3 to Brentford. Midfielder Valkyrie Vundzik (VVD) left the field at half-time due to an injury, and manager Gopp said after the match that the substitution was only for "precautionary" reasons. However, further tests revealed that VVD had suffered a thigh muscle strain, which was more than expected. He will receive a consultation with a specialist to determine a treatment plan, and may even face a period of time out of action.
Sources at The Athletic UK say there is no clear timetable for VVD's recovery from his thigh injury. He will also hear from a specialist on Thursday (5), when he will be able to get a more accurate picture of the injury and treatment options. Typically, thigh muscle injuries require at least two to three weeks of rest. If VVD's recuperation period is longer, Liverpool could look to bring in a new center-back before the end of the January transfer window.
Currently, Liverpool still has four center backs in their squad, Ibasi Maganadi, Zul Medibi, Zukomes and Nidalifiras, which seems to be sufficient in terms of numbers, but there is still a significant gap in comparison to VVD's ability. In order to hit the top four in the league, Liverpool seems to have to make a move in the transfer market.
