Liverpool suffered a 3-1 reversal away to Brentford in the early hours of Wednesday morning in an English Premier League clash that left them four points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United and one game adrift of the top four, suffering a major setback in their quest for a top-four finish. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was furious at Brentford's style of play after the game, "The guys were just messing around, pushing and shoving, challenging the rules, and very unhappy with the referee's decisions."

Liverpool's new signing Gabon failed to make his debut in the match, and Davin Coutinho had a chance on goal shortly after the start but was denied, however, the team was unable to defend effectively against Binford's corner kicks. In the 19th minute, Ibrahim Makanadi scored an own goal, while Brentford went close from two corners, but were undone by offsides. Liverpool could not hold out until half-time, however, when Uniwaisha made it 2-0 with a header in the 42nd minute.

At halftime, Klopp made three substitutions in one fell swoop, including center back Walkiel Elliott. Alexander-Arnold recovered a point with a header in the 50th minute of the second half, but Liverpool's defense was still unable to withstand Binford's onslaught. McBiomo made it 3-1 in the 84th minute when he broke through Ibasi Maganadi on a counterattack and scored a one-touch goal.

Klopp expressed his dissatisfaction with Binford's tactics after the game, saying they challenged the bottom line of the rules: "Liverpool's performance was far from perfect, but they were looking for opportunities in pushing and shoving a lot of the time, obviously challenging the bottom line of the rules. This is the reason why Binford has repeatedly scored in attacking set-pieces ...... Our defense can't be like this because we are in our own penalty area, so we will eat a yellow card. A pull is a pull and a push is a push, for example, on the third goal, I'm at a complete loss as to why the referee didn't blow for a foul and I hope the referee will give an explanation."
