On Thursday, Antwerp's sporting director, Ovomas, suffered a sudden health crisis and, according to media reports, suffered a minor stroke and was taken to hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his condition is currently stable and he is not in danger of dying.
Faced with this unexpected situation, Antwerp officials quickly responded with a statement revealing, "Ovamas is currently in stable health, although he will need moderate rest in order to ensure his recovery. Currently, Ovamas and his family are fully committed to his road to recovery."
Ovomas, 49, was a former player for top European clubs such as Ajax, Arsenal and Barcelona, and also represented the Dutch national team in the '94 and '98 World Cups, and was affectionately known as "Peter Pan" by fans. After his retirement, he took up the post of sports director at Ajax, but he had to resign due to the alleged sexual harassment of a female colleague a year ago.
