In a heated duel between Cameroon and Brazil, Abubakar scored a goal in stoppage time to seal a 1-0 victory. Despite both sides bidding farewell to the tournament, Cameroon managed to seal the victory with this heartwarming scene on the field. As Abubakar stripped off his shirt to celebrate his goal, referee Efaw showed a yellow card, resulting in the striker being sent off for two yellows to one red. However, Abubakar had no complaints and instead shook hands with Efaw to thank him and the referee smiled back to congratulate him for helping Cameroon to win in one of the most touching red cards ever.

The 30-year-old Abubakar was a substitute in the first two group games, but in the last game he not only scored a goal, but also contributed an assist to help his team draw 3-3 with Serbia. In this game, he started and scored again, and even created a record, becoming the first player to score and receive a red card in a single game in the World Cup since Schiedam in 2006. Being able to play alongside the French king, Abubakar left the pitch with a smile on his face as he expressed his gratitude to referee Efaw for his help.
