England thrashed Iran 6-2 in their opening match of the World Cup group stage, but there was one worrying sight at the end of the match - the team's top striker, Khalilani, was unlucky to suffer a serious injury to his right ankle during the match. After the match, he was seen leaving the pitch with an emergency bandage on the injured area and hobbling around, raising concerns that his injury could be serious.

Although Halikani did not score in the game, he continued to be active, including two assists for Stanning and Rashford. However, he was kicked again in the second half on his right ankle by a brutal foul on Paunari. Although he insisted on finishing the game, reporter Ornstein captured footage of Halikani's injured right ankle being bandaged, as well as him limping and walking in a highly unnatural stance, apparently still in pain.
