In a thrilling Group A clash, the Netherlands declared victory over Senegal with a 2-0 net victory. The outstanding performances of goal heroes Gap and Carabin should not be overlooked in this crucial victory, while goalkeeper Anders Norberg also deserves a credit. The 28-year-old Dutch Eredivisie goalkeeper from Heerenveen, who made his World Cup debut in Dutch colours, made four saves and ensured no goals were conceded, laying a solid foundation for the team's start.
This World Cup debut for Andersnober makes him the first Dutch player since 1978 to feature on his World Cup debut. After starting out in Heerenveen in the 2013-2014 season, he failed to make a mark in his first season and then made just six appearances in four years at NAC Bida.He joined Serie B Hodgkiss in the 2018-2019 season but again failed to make it as a starter, with the team being relegated at the end of the season.
After a lackluster development in Italy, Andersnobel opted to return to the Netherlands, moving to Dordrecht in the Dutch second division for the 2019 to 2020 season, but a year later he terminated his contract with the club and at one point faced a period of time when he was left without a ball. After two spells of unemployment, his family advised him to retire and become a police officer, but he did not give up on his dream. In January of this year, Andersnobel joined Eagles in the Dutch Eredivisie and managed to help the team survive relegation, before transferring back to Heerenveen again at the end of the season. It was his outstanding performance in Heerenveen that made Coach Younger include him in the Dutch squad for this year's World Cup.
