With the passion of the World Cup sweeping the globe, Asian fans are staying up late to follow their favorite teams. However, a doctor has warned that overexertion from late-night football watching could lead to the risk of deafness, reminding everyone not to forget to leave room for rest while watching and enjoying the game.

According to domestic media reports, Dr. Chen Zhiling, director of the otolaryngology department of a traditional Chinese medicine hospital in Hangzhou, disclosed that during the last World Cup, a man as young as 27 years old ended up with severe hearing damage after staying up late for three consecutive nights to watch the games. The report mentioned that the man worked normally during the day, but insisted on staying up late into the early hours of the morning every night, and after three consecutive days, he found that his hearing in both ears had dropped dramatically.

The man then went to the hospital for a checkup, and the results were shocking: one ear was completely deaf, while the other was severely damaged. After treatment, about half of the hearing in one ear was restored, while the other was permanently deaf and required cochlear implant surgery.
