On the occasion of the opening match of the World Cup, CIES (Football Observatory), a well-known Swiss sports research organization, released a list of the most expensive teams in this World Cup. England, with many Premier League stars such as Harry Carney and Stanley Staines, is worth nearly 1.5 billion euros, topping the list. Among them, the core of the midfield, Zudibinimhan, with a value of 202 million euros, became the most expensive player of the tournament.
The CIES report shows that there are 831 players in this World Cup with a total value of €15 billion. England's players, with a total value of around €1.499 billion, topped the list, edging out five-time World Cup winners Brazil (€1.455 billion). Defending champions France, meanwhile, came in third with €1.337 billion. Seven of the top 10 most expensive teams are from Europe. And Costa Rica, the Central and North American team with the lowest total value, has an entire team worth just 23 million euros.
In terms of players, England's 19-year-old midfield star Zudy Binningham tops the list with €202 million, followed by Brazilian striker Wenceslas Zulia with €201 million.CIES measures the value of players around the globe through a scientific evaluation system that takes into account factors such as the length of a player's contract, his age, his form and his soccer career.
