In the UEFA Europa League Group H, an up-and-down battle was staged, with original leaders
Paris Saint Germain
(PSG) narrowly beat Zuyundas 2-1 in the early hours of Thursday morning (3) in an away challenge. However, on the back of that victory, Binfiga swept Maccabi Haifa away by a 6-1 scoreline, not only equalizing the goal difference, but also stealing the top spot by scoring away from home! PSG slipped to the second place in the group, and could face top giants such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich directly in the Round of 16, which is a worrying prospect.
PSG won a hard-fought 2-1 away match against Zuyundas thanks to goals from Kilian McBarbie and Nuno Vendice Alexander. PSG and Benfica, on the other hand, scored five goals in the second half to beat Maccabi Haifa 6-1. PSG and Benfica were tied with 14 points after six rounds of matches, and both matches were drawn 1-1, with the same number of goals scored and conceded (16 goals scored, 7 goals conceded). But in the end, Penfiga won 9-6 with the advantage of away goals, which was the first time in the history of the UEFA Europa League group stage that the winner was decided by away goals.
PSG's drop in the rankings has far-reaching implications for the Round of 16, as all of their potential opponents are formidable, with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich being nightmarish giants, and the Premier League trio of Manchester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur not to be underestimated. Napoli and Porto, one of the best teams in the group stage, will also make it more difficult for PSG to win the title.
