In the early hours of Sunday morning, Leeds United blew away Liverpool in the Premier League with a 2-1 win, a victory that took fans by surprise. The goal scorer, 21 year old Dutch winger Sam Mawae, was in top form, scoring for the second consecutive Premier League game, and this time was the first player since Imperious in 2012 to score a last-minute winner in an away game at Anfield Road.
Sammawi joined Leeds United two years ago from Dutch Eredivisie side Feijano and was initially unimpressive, making just six Premier League appearances last season. But this season, he has been given more chances and has already made 8 appearances in the league. Just recently, he scored in extra time in a Fulham match, but the team eventually lost 2-3. This time, he was again instrumental in the 89th minute of the game, helping Leeds United to a comeback win over Liverpool.
It is worth noting that Imperious scored the winning goal for Arsenal in March 2012 in the last minute of the match to beat Liverpool. Sammavi's goal in the 89th minute made him the first player to score a last-minute winner for Liverpool in a Premier League away game in the last 10 years. Coincidentally, both came from Feijano, and the two Dutch players became Liverpool's nemesis.
Senmavi just celebrated his 21st birthday on October 30th and this goal was certainly his best birthday present.
