In the UEFA Europa League Group E match played in the early hours of Wednesday morning (26th), Chelsea beat Salzburg 2-1 away from home, locking up a place in the last 16 in the early round. New manager Porter remained unbeaten in his first nine matches after taking over the team, becoming the second England-based manager in Chelsea's history since William Lewis in the 1906/07 season to remain unbeaten in his first nine matches in charge.
Only in the 23rd minute of the match, Chelsea's young midfielder Gohuasi scored the winning goal, making it his fifth personal goal in the Europa League, and he has been through five different managers in those five games. This achievement makes him only the second player in the tournament's history to set such a record, the other being his Croatian compatriot Modić.
After the break, Salzburg's Adamu quickly responded to a cross from the left to equalize. However, Chelsea's Xaviers sealed the win again in the 64th minute with a spectacular world wave from inside the penalty area. Chelsea now leads third-placed Salzburg by four points and is on course for promotion.
In the other match in the same group, AC Milan's Matteo Gabbia, Raffaele Leal and Chiote scored goals, plus an own goal from the opponent, to beat Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 away from home, jumping up to the second place in the group with 7 points. They will host Salzburg in the next round for qualification.
