In a rare move, the final week of the World Cup has been inserted in the middle of the European season, which has led to a surge in injury risk ahead of the tournament. Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquita, who plays for West Ham, recently suffered a serious shoulder injury and it is rumored that he may not be able to participate in the final week of the World Cup.

Lucas Paquita moved to West Ham from Lyon in a £51million deal this summer. He was injured last week in the match against Southampton and will also miss this Thursday's (20) away game at Liverpool. West Ham manager David Moyes revealed, "Pakita is injured and is in a pretty serious condition at the moment, I can't predict how long he'll be out for but he's vital to the team and we're all very disappointed."

Lucas Paquita, 25, is a stalwart of the Brazilian national team. He has missed only one of the last 20 Brazilian national team matches. If he is unable to travel to Qatar to compete, it would certainly be a huge loss for Brazil.
