With the resignation of Queen Elizabeth II, the current season of the English Premier League had to be announced postponed. It has been reported that the next round of Premier League matches may also be postponed again due to state funeral activities. This, coupled with the subsequent cycle of international fixtures, means that fans may have to wait until October 1 to see the restart of the Premier League.

The Premier League season has reached its 6th round, with the 7th round postponed and the 8th round facing the possibility of giving way to the international fixture cycle from September 23-28, when all major leagues will be suspended. The 9th round of Premier League matches is scheduled to take place on the evening of October 1, when Arsenal will face Tottenham Hotspur, while on October 2 there will also be the much-anticipated "Manchester City Derby", which will see Manchester City take on Manchester United.

Nonetheless, the Premier League teams' European fixtures are not expected to be affected. Manchester United have announced that they will play their UEFA Europa League away match against Shulew in the early hours of September 16th. However, there is still uncertainty as to whether Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City's UEFA home games next midweek will go ahead as scheduled.
