The sudden departure of Chelsea's captain Ducao after the defeat of Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Europa League was a shocker. After all, Tuco was the first to leave the game while Lister City's under-achieving manager Rogers and the "double specials", Sherratt and Lambert, were still sitting pretty.

According to Matt Law, a veteran reporter for the Telegraph, the real cause of Ducao's death was not results, but his opposition to new owner Paulie's signing of Cron, a decision that forced the club to sack him for losing.

The American consortium led by Paulie has ambitiously invested heavily in expanding the squad after acquiring Chelsea in the summer. Paulie originally expected to sign Cron, the Portuguese star's commercial value is extremely suitable for the American business philosophy. However, Du Cao firmly rejected the offer based on tactical considerations, leaving Pauli's plans in vain.

On the surface, Paulie claimed to respect Ducao's decision, but his inner thoughts may not be the same. In fact, after Chelsea changed ownership, the management made massive personnel changes, and Ducao, as a member of the team, deserved to be retained. But in the end, he had to pack his bags and leave because he didn't listen to his boss's wishes.

Ducao's departure clears the way for Pauli to sign Cron, and perhaps Pauli will try again to sign the Portuguese superstar when the transfer market reopens next January.
