Liverpool (England)
The team's new season got off to a bad start with only two points from three matches. However, a 9-0 home win over Bournemouth in the last round broke the goal drought and brought the goal difference to 13-5, but it also led to the dismissal of coach Scott Parker.
Have the Reds awakened to the challenge of the Champions League group stage? A tough battle is about to unfold as they host Newcastle United in this round.
Newcastle United have continued their strong run from late last season, opening the new season with three consecutive draws, including a 3-3 draw at home to Manchester City. Such an amazing start to the season has been a solid boost to the team thanks to winter break preparations and low key reinforcements over the summer.
Before the summer transfer window closed, the Magpies signed Swedish striker Alexander Isak for a team-record €70 million (including a €5 million float clause) and he is expected to feature in this round of games.
It's worth noting that current Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe was the former manager of the Cherries. Since the draw at Anfield in April 2017, Eddie Howe's side have suffered eight consecutive defeats against Liverpool (Bournemouth 2017/18 to 2019/20, Newcastle United last season), and the Magpies are on a 25-game winless streak at Anfield (with just five draws), so could these historical statistics be good luck for Liverpool?
Both sides used a 4-3-3 formation.

In the final, Liverpool won 2-1 against Newcastle United, picking up their second consecutive win and snapping the Magpies' 4-game unbeaten streak to start the season.
Liverpool won their first midweek game of the season, and once again came from behind to grab the points. Jurgen Klopp said in his post-match interview, "To be honest, the goal at the end of extra time was Liverpool's perfect response to the game. I'm delighted with the result and there's really nothing else I want to say."
"Winning a game like this is a perfect result because it was a tough game with high defensive intensity from both sides and the commitment of the players, it's hard to keep your rhythm from start to finish in a game like this. When the 0-1 result stood until the end of halftime, I told my players in the lounge that we were looking a little bit frustrated right now and that we should go and conduct the ball more, and that only when we play like that do we become more of a threat. Also, we have to stay calm and keep going to situations like this."
"A result like this was able to wash away the frustration that came during the course of this game, it was one of the best nights we've ever had and that's soccer."
"He (Fabio Carvalho) is a very good young player, we changed a lot of things in this game, but he still showed that he adapted well, and these kind of moments of desperation are what a player like him needs to experience."
"The result of this game means a lot to us and it's a game we'll remember. Divock Origi contributed the winning goal in our previous 2-3 away win against Newcastle United, and anything can happen before the end of the game, and now we have proved that again."
Newcastle United played a good half of football, and despite suffering through pot stickers there is no need to be sad, after all Anfield is known as the Magpies' ghost gate second only to Old Trafford.
To have pushed Liverpool this far is a kudos for being good enough on their own, in addition to the fact that their opponents haven't adjusted yet.
Moreover, Eddie Howe didn't send all the main force in this round, and it's not like the Magpies don't have injuries at this stage, as their consecutive battles against Manchester City and Liverpool have brought huge troubles to their opponents, it's really not impossible for Newcastle United to win the European seats this season.
