The recent transfer moves have been frequent, with the introduction of Brazilian internationals Casimiru and Anthony Maffeos in one go, bringing the number of Brazilian players in the team's history to a staggering 10. However, looking back, United's Brazilian players have generally been disappointing, and whether these two newcomers can bring about a turnaround for the team remains an open question.
In the history of Manchester United, the most disappointing Brazilian player is none other than Kibunchen. The midfielder, who helped Brazil win the title in 2002, joined United the following year but was plagued by injuries and only played for two seasons, scoring only two goals in 20 games in the Premier League before being transferred to Cedars.
Another Brazilian midfielder, Luiz Andersen, who was a favorite of United's manager, Ferguson, was also ill-fated, joining United from Porto in 2007 for a whopping 30 million euros, but never proved his worth and spent most of his eight seasons on the bench. The Dashwa brothers have also been mediocre.
In recent years, Anders Penrina has been touted as the "King of Warm-Up Goals", but has been loaned out frequently and has officially moved to Fulham this season. Left-back Aleksandar Dinis has also been on the bench after two seasons at Manchester United, and has been loaned out to West Vale this season.
Currently, Fite has been widely criticized and has recently lost his starting position. United, undaunted by the Brazilian player's "black history", have invested heavily in Casimiru and Anthony Maffeos, and can only hope that they will bring good luck.
