Having suffered two consecutive defeats to start the season in the Premier League, leader Tannhäuser was so agitated that he was rumored to have canceled his scheduled Sunday (14th) off in order to punish his players for their poor performance, forcing them to complete a punishing long run of 13.8 kilometers in the scorching heat. However, sports science experts have warned that such extreme punishment could increase the risk of injury to the players and have suggested that it is not a reasonable course of action.

The players ran 13.8 kilometers less than their opponents in a 0-4 defeat away at Binford, the statistics reveal. Sky Sports UK reported that Tannhäuser, in anger, decided to cancel the players' leave and asked them to re-run the distance under the blazing sun until Monday (15) when the players were able to rest. The move, however, has been widely questioned.
Sports science expert Baia said, "If the news is true, I'm sure Manchester United's physiotherapists would be against this. This would drastically increase the risk of injury to the players. After a high-intensity game, a player's body needs to regain its balance, and suddenly canceling the break for strenuous exercise would upset that balance and put the player on the verge of injury."
