On Friday (5), Chelsea FC announced that they have successfully brought in 24-year-old Spanish left-back Gugulena from Brighton. It is reported that the total value of the deal could be as high as 62 million pounds, surpassing the record transfer fee of 48 million pounds of Manchester City's Bantjie Venditti, making Gugulena the world's most expensive left back.

Although Gugulena made 38 appearances on behalf of Bradenton last season and only contributed 1 goal and 2 assists, his performance was not amazing, but he has become the meat and potatoes in the transfer market this summer. Not only did two giants, Manchester City and Barcelona, salivate over him, but Manchester City was even willing to bid only 30 million pounds. However, Chelsea ended up being more brash and beat all the contenders with a heavy bid and managed to get him under their wing.

According to insiders, Chelsea have signed a six-year contract with Gugulena until 2028. The transfer fee has a base price of £55 million, with a further £7 million floating clause, making it possible for the total to climb to £62 million. Guglielmo himself had expectations of joining a top club, having expressed his displeasure at Brighton's failure to meet City's high-priced offer, which he felt hampered his career development. Now, he has finally gotten his wish to join a big club like Chelsea.

It's worth noting that Guglielmo's departure leaves Brighton without a key player on the eve of the start of the season. This is an unexpected bonus for United, whose first Premier League opponent is Brighton.
