FC Barcelona officially announced on Thursday (14th) that they have renewed the contract of French striker Ousmane Dibili, who is out of contract this season, with a new two-year deal that will extend until June 2024. The club has promised to treat him as a core player of the team and it is reported that his net income has risen slightly from his previous deal.

Dibili had been seen as one of Barcelona's key reinforcement blunders in recent years. The French starlet was brought in from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of €145 million in 2017 with the intention of him taking over from Neymar, however the talented striker was not only ill-disciplined, but also frequently injured. In his five seasons at Barcelona, he made 150 appearances and scored 32 goals, a performance that was clearly disproportionate to his price tag.

Recently, Barcelona has been trying to sell him, but no one has asked for him. Finally, when his contract expired, despite being 25 years old and returning to free agency, Dibili was unable to find a suitable buyer. In the end, he accepted Barcelona's offer to extend his contract and decided to stay with the team.
