A much-anticipated warm-up match was played in South Korea on Saturday evening (16) local time against England's
Tottenham Hotspur (city in France)
team against Spain's Xavier. The match has yet to officially begin, but both sides face a number of challenges. Spurs have more newcomers in their squad and have not had enough time to gel, while Xavier have always been wary of Premier League teams in recent years, especially in the scorching heat, and have defended more tightly, with few chances to score. (Match will officially start at 7pm on Saturday)
This was Tottenham's second warm-up game of the summer. Despite a 6-3 win against the slightly less powerful Korean Pro Stars, the Spurs were twice tied by their opponents, and eventually won the game with two goals each from substitutes Halikani and Son Heung-min. It's worth noting that the Stars were only playing an amateur game, and Spurs still conceded three goals, which is why manager Dryland said after the game that although scoring six goals was good, conceding three was still unsatisfactory.
In fact, Dryland's "hellish" training immediately after arriving in South Korea, where both Khalilani and the physically fit Son Heung-min felt very tired, suggests that their conditioning still needs to be improved.
Many new recruits, long break-in period
In addition, Dryland signed new recruits such as Bileksi and Lee Tsaritsyn in one fell swoop this summer, and he obviously hopes to scout these new recruits and try out different lineups through warm-up matches. However, as everyone has not resumed training for a long time, the tacit understanding between the old and new players still needs to be improved, and winger Guluszewski may not be able to play due to injury.
There have also been a number of departures from the Westville side, including Diego Carruthers and Augusto Tinson, who have joined Aston Villa together. On-loan Anthony Martial has also returned to Manchester United, and with this being their first warm-up game of the season, they are yet to be in top form. In addition, Westville have scored less than two goals in three of their last four matches against Premier League teams, and with the game being even tougher in the hot Korean climate, expect this match to finish low-scoring as well.
