On the Stick to Football Podcast Stormer, Gary Neville was full of praise for Welbeck's recent peak form. He bluntly stated that Welbeck is on fire, far more so than any other striker in United's squad, and is convinced that United made a mistake in releasing him in the first place. Roy Keane, on the other hand, was not convinced and countered Neville in a serious tone, pointing out that just because a player leaves and shines doesn't mean they should have been kept by the club in the first place.

Neville has not backed down, insisting that Welbeck will be a key part of United's squad if they expand to 24 men and plan to keep five or six strikers. Keane, on the other hand, has scoffed at the idea that just because a player shines outside of United doesn't mean they're capable of competing in the high intensity of the game. Both sides are at loggerheads in this heated debate sparked by the two United legends.
