Speaking on the Tightrope to Football podcast, Gary Neville was full of praise for Welbeck's recent stunning performances. He bluntly stated that Welbeck's current form is at the top of the United squad and even argued that United made a mistake by releasing him in the first place. Roy Keane, however, disagreed and seriously questioned Neville's views, emphasizing that just because a player has been impressive since leaving the club doesn't necessarily mean that they should have stayed in the first place.

Neville has not wavered in his belief that Welbeck will be a key part of United's squad if they expand to 24 men and plan to keep five or six strikers. Keane, on the other hand, had a different view, pointing out that while it was great to see players leaving the club for a new chapter in their careers, it didn't mean that they were up to the rigors of United's challenge. The two former United stars then engaged in a tit-for-tat debate around the topic, each with their own opinion.
