In a recent interview, former Tottenham star Paul Robinson expressed his personal opinion on whether Tottenham should recruit Liverpool goalkeeper Keleher to fill the Vicario vacancy. He believes that this transfer proposal is too unrealistic and dissects the logic behind it in detail.
Robinson was blunt: "Tottenham simply won't splash the cash to bring in Keleher because Keleher has his heart set on a club that can play him as a starting goalkeeper. Vicario is the number one goalkeeper at Spurs, so there is no need for the club to bring in another goalkeeper who is hell-bent on becoming a starter."
He went on to elaborate, "The arrival of Mamardashvili has given Liverpool a well thought out plan for the future and the deal is extremely cost effective for Liverpool. So the chances of Kelleher leaving Liverpool for another team to compete for a place are almost nil."
Robinson didn't forget to mention Kelleher's performance this season: "Kelleher has proved with his performances that he has what it takes to be a first-teamer, and he's undoubtedly a top goalkeeper. I don't think Tottenham would spend a fortune to bring him in, and Tottenham wouldn't be the ideal choice for Kelleher. Frankly, the chances of that happening are slim to none."
Robinson's analysis reveals the considerations that Spurs have in mind when looking for a new goalkeeper, as well as Kelleher's expectations for career progression. The deal does not appear to meet the expectations and interests of either side, and is therefore highly unlikely to materialize. Spurs need to find a more suitable replacement for Vicario, while Kelleher would prefer to stay at Liverpool and continue to prove himself and fight for more playing opportunities.
