Manchester United were defeated 3-4 by Tottenham Hotspur in the last eight of the EFL Cup, failing to advance to the quarterfinals. After the match, United's head coach Amorim took to the press box to support goalkeeper Anthony Baindele, insisting that he did not need to apologize for the corner kick error.
In an up-and-down contest, Baindil was unable to stop Son from breaking through with a corner, a goal that nearly ended United's dream of dragging the match into a penalty shootout. Although Baindil claimed after the game that he was fouled by Tottenham midfielder Lucas Berival while defending, Amorim did not blame the rookie goalkeeper for the loss.
Amorim said bluntly at the conference, "No, he doesn't need to apologize. He just needs to focus on preparing for the game." He emphasized that United, as a team, should share the responsibility for both victory and defeat among all members of the team, and cannot unilaterally put the blame on individual players. Amorim also revealed that the team will revisit the match footage in a bid to improve each player's performance in preparation for the upcoming fixtures.
Furthermore, Amorim is confident in his tactical adjustments, including the five changes made after the Manchester derby and the exclusion of Marcus Rashford from the starting line-up. He believes that all these decisions were made in the interest of the team as a whole and has no regrets. Amorim pointed out that the turning point of the game came shortly after the second half kicked off, when United failed to withstand Tottenham's onslaught and the scoreline was quickly opened up. Nevertheless, he remains confident that United can make a breakthrough in the coming games.
