In the latest episode of Sky Sports, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes gave his insight into the recent criticism of Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson. Scholes backed Robertson, insisting that his performances were far from the poor portrayal and warned that opponents may take the opportunity to go after him.
Scholes said bluntly, "I didn't think Robertson played that badly. Admittedly, he has made mistakes recently, but I don't think so. I know his style of play and his characteristics very well, and a player of his type needs to play consistently to be at his best. I remember at the beginning of the season we were talking about him because he did have his moments when he was pushed out of the starting lineup."
Scholes also predicted that "it is an almost inevitable trend that future opponents may begin to target Robertson in particular. Although he is not an obvious weakness in Liverpool's defense, given his current predicament and recent series of errors, opponents are likely to use him as a breakthrough to try and break through Liverpool's tight defense."
Scholes' words are both a firm support for Robertson and a reminder to fans and the media that it is inevitable for players to make mistakes in the game, and the key is how to learn from failure and keep moving forward. At the same time, he also appealed to Liverpool's coaches and teammates to give Robertson more understanding and support to help him get out of trouble and return to the top.
