Gary Neville was full of praise for Welbeck's extraordinary performances of late on the latest Football Firm podcast. Neville asserted that Welbeck's athleticism has significantly surpassed that of all the strikers in United's squad, and was convinced that United should not have let the key striker go in the first place. Roy Keane had a very different opinion, and seriously responded to Neville by saying that just because a player has done well since leaving the club doesn't mean they should have stayed.
Neville is adamant that Welbeck will be an integral part of United's squad if they expand to a 24-man squad with the intention of retaining five or six strikers. But Keane is not convinced, pointing out that players may have a spring in their step after leaving the club, but that doesn't mean they are strong enough to meet United's high standards and demands. The two former Man Utd stars were at loggerheads in this debate about the former star of Man Utd, each with his own opinion.
