Veteran Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Leverkusen are currently in active discussions with their young midfield star Wiltz over a contract extension, with indications suggesting that the two sides are highly likely to reach a long-term deal in the near future that will last until 2028. Although the official paperwork has yet to be penned, this positive development significantly reduces the likelihood of Wiltz moving on in the near future.

In the past, Wiltz has caught the eye of top giants such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City with his exceptional performances on the green. But with Leverkusen in deep communication with him and his family, it seems that these potential transfer rumors have been put on hold for the time being.

Plettenberg also emphasized that despite Bayern's sporting director Eberl showing great interest in Wiltz and being determined to sign him next summer, the current situation makes it more likely that Wiltz will extend his contract with Leverkusen. This suggests that Wiltz will be expected to continue playing for Leverkusen at least until the 2026 World Cup.

For Leverkusen, keeping Wiltz is a huge victory. As the soul of the team's midfield, Wiltz's retention will provide a solid guarantee for the team's stability and development, and at the same time, it will also give Leverkusen more flexibility in the future transfer market.

For Wiltz personally, the contract extension until 2028 certainly provides him with a more stable and long-term development platform. At Leverkusen, he can continue to sharpen his skills and leadership, laying a solid foundation for his future career.
