At dawn on Monday, in the 16th round of the English Premier League, Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1 on the road. After the match, Manchester United's strong player Dalot faced the lens of the Daily Mail and talked about the match and the team's current situation.
Speaking about the arrival of new manager Amorim, Dalot said: "Since we joined forces with Amorim, we have known that the only way to succeed and break through is to work hard and endure the trials and tribulations. If you are determined to work with us, we will be successful; if not, there is no place for you. This belief is embedded in my heart."
Dalot's pride in the game was evident: "We have been in similar battles in the past few years, but we have often lost ground at crucial moments. Today, we showed resilience and even when we were behind, we didn't lose control and kept our heads. The transformation was clear to see, and I sincerely love the way we responded."
He continued, "The sense of energy amongst the team was exhilarating. It's the result of the combined efforts of all the players who are out there, and they give us a constant boost. It was the first time at the Etihad Stadium that I felt the confidence that we could win at any time, which was a new experience and meant that I improved in some areas."
Dalot is still ambitious about the status quo and knows that the team needs to continue to evolve: "I'm tired of repeating the cliché 'we need time', but the truth is that I've been here for almost seven years. I share the fans' desire to see immediate victories, but the reality is that it's a gradual process. Under the new coach, we are steadily moving forward and are on our way to our dream."
As for the importance of the win, Dalot admitted: "It's the first time we've beaten City away from home since 2021, and in terms of impact it's certainly one of the most crucial victories of Amorim's managerial career. But we need to keep our heads up, it's a city derby, we've won the three points, but the follow-on fixtures are just as crucial. We need to climb the table by winning back-to-back games, soccer is brutally competitive and we have to keep moving forward."
