In the 16th round of the English Premier League, Leicester City lost to Newcastle United with a score of 0-4 on the road. After the match, the former Dutch Golden Boot Van Nistelrooy gave his personal interpretation of the match in a Sky Sports interview.
Van Nistelrooy admitted: "This match was definitely a tough test for us. The mistakes at set-pieces were painful for us, and this is something we have to address and improve on. Although we've had a fruitful last two weeks of training, with two consecutive positive developments, it's clear that today's game wasn't our best."
He continued: "Against the league's giants, we were exposed in our set-piece defense, which directly led to the goals. It was a challenging afternoon, but I don't want to be discouraged. I think this is also a process of growth for the team. We must learn from the game and study how Newcastle United counterattack to win. The intelligence they showed in their defense and handling of set pieces is something to think about and learn from."
Speaking about the upcoming clash with Wolves, Van Nistelrooy said: "Every battle is crucial for us. Only by doing our best can we come out on top in this Premier League competition. The same applies to the next match against Wolves, we must be fully prepared for the new challenge."
