Italian media giant Romano has revealed that English Premier League giants Liverpool are plotting to open contract extension talks with defensive stalwart Konate, with the intention of locking up the key player in case the team suffers a talent drain when his contract expires in the future.

Currently, Liverpool's three stars, Van Dyke, Alexander-Arnold and Salah, are all due to expire at the end of the season, and the renewal of their contracts is still in the pipeline. In order to maintain the stable development of the team, Liverpool senior management has intervened in advance, to start to solve the contract problems of other key players.

Since joining Liverpool from Red Bull Leipzig in Germany in the summer of 2021, Konate has quickly become a central force in the team's backline. At the tail end of Klopp's reign, Konate managed to be among the leaders of Liverpool's backline with his outstanding performances. This season, he continued his excellent performance and became an indispensable main force of the team.

The 25-year-old French international has played 18 games for Liverpool this season in all competitions, contributing three goals. His outstanding performances have not only helped Liverpool stay in contention in the Premier League, but also at the top of the table in the Champions League. Konate's solid defense and ability to score at crucial moments has shown the Liverpool hierarchy his great potential and value.

In order to avoid Konate being poached by other clubs when his contract expires in the future, Liverpool are interested in extending his contract early. Currently, Konate's contract is set to expire in 2026, but Liverpool are looking to extend it to ensure that they continue to have the brilliant defensive player for years to come.
