On the Stick to Football podcast, Gary Neville was full of praise for Welbeck's recent performances. He said that Welbeck's form has surpassed that of any other striker in United's squad and is convinced that United made an unforgivable mistake in letting the talented striker go.

Roy Keane, on the other hand, challenged Neville's view, telling him squarely that the mere fact that a player has done well since leaving the club is not a good enough reason why they should have stayed in the first place.

Neville is unimpressed and firmly believes that if United are able to expand to a 24-man squad and intend to retain five or six strikers, Welbeck should undoubtedly be a key part of the line-up. But Keane disagrees, pointing out that players may have a spring in their step outside of United, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will be able to meet United's exacting standards and demands.

The two former Manchester United superstars engaged in a tit-for-tat debate on the subject, with each arguing for the other.
