Soccer Talking Points
On the Stick to Football podcast, Gary Neville was full of praise for Welbeck's recent performances. He pointed out that Welbeck's form has surpassed that of all the strikers in United's squad, and was adamant that United made a mistake in letting the striker go. In the face of Neville's blunt words, Roy Keane calmly countered, emphasizing that a player's need to stay in the team cannot be judged solely on the basis of his excellent performances since leaving the club.
Neville went on to elaborate that if United could have a 24-man squad and plan to keep five or six strikers, Welbeck would undoubtedly be a key figure on the list. Keane, however, had reservations, arguing that just because a player has been successful since leaving the club does not mean that he or she is good enough to adapt to United's exacting standards and demands. The debate on the footballing topic, sparked by the two former Manchester United stars, has intensified with each side arguing their own point of view.
