In the early hours of the morning, the fire of the 6th round of the Champions League was rekindled, and Liverpool narrowly defeated Girona by 1-0 on the road. After the match, Liverpool iron defender Robertson talked about his insights on the victory in the club's official interview.
Robertson couldn't hide his joy and said of the six consecutive wins: "Yes, six wins in a row, that's an impeccable result. It's not an easy achievement, and if we hadn't played so well, other teams would have been expected to achieve it. We've done a great job, and winning is the way to go."
Nevertheless, Robertson also admitted that the team still has room for improvement: "Undeniably, our performance could have been higher. Tonight, our performance did not reach its peak, especially in the first half, the pace was out of control, like a basketball battle. The game was too open and put too much pressure on the goalkeeper, which is not in line with our tactical style."
However, Robertson also recognized his team's performance in possession: "Possession was still in our hands, we created chances and had the opportunity to extend the lead. We didn't play our best but we shut out the opposition and the three points are extremely valuable away from home in the Champions League."
Speaking about his personal honor, Robertson was overwhelmed with emotion: "I won the UEFA Player of the Year once, a few years ago. It's a great honor to be recognized again. Of course, it couldn't have been done without the team's hard work and such recognition is always gratifying."
Finally, Robertson spoke highly of teammate Salah's performance: "Salah was perfect tonight, he scored and took a great penalty kick. We never had any doubts about his ability to take penalties. Luckily, he managed to put the ball in the back of the net and we limited the chances of our opponents. Salah was once again the hero of the match."
