Chinese Super League powerhouse Beijing Guoan has suffered a major setback recently, with one of the team's underperforming foreigners so unimpressed with it that he's hard to find even on the bench, oblivious to Guoan's brilliance!
Beijing Guoan, Shanghai Shenhua and Shandong Taishan, three clubs with a long tradition in China's top soccer league. Founded in 1992, Beijing Guoan has a history of 31 years. Despite having won the league repeatedly in the past, it was only in 2009 that the club won the trophy for the first time.
Beijing Guoan has not stopped in its quest for the title, frequently changing coaches and bringing in foreign aid. In the era of gold-dollar soccer, Guoan has a star-studded foreign aid lineup, with many top players who have played in the top five leagues, such as Brazilian international Augusto. However, the rise of rivals Guangzhou Evergrande has cast a shadow over Guoan's path to the title.
With the end of the golden dollar soccer era, Guangzhou Evergrande was unfortunately relegated to the Central League. Beijing Guoan seems to see a new hope of winning the championship, but the strength of the team is not as good as before. Although the team has brought in famous coaches and signed famous foreign aiders, the frequent changes of head coaches and foreign aiders have not brought any improvement in performance, and the 2023 season even ended with a sixth place finish.
Dabbro, the Croatian foreigner joined Beijing Guoan on April 15, 2022 . In the early stages of the league, he contributed a goal together with another foreigner, Adebenelo. Although Adebenro did not score a goal, he won praise from fans for his active play in front of goal. Daburo's goal, however, accidentally made him bear the bad name of "water goods".
Due to poor performance, Coach Xie Feng had to put Dabbro on the bench. For Beijing Guoan, the arrival of this Croatian soccer genius did not turn out to be as brilliant as expected, but became obscure after joining the team. At Guoan, Daburo failed to bring substantial help to the team and was therefore loaned out to the Latvian league last season.
In Latvia, Dabrow's performance remained sluggish, collecting only two goals throughout the season, and none of them were key goals. Nevertheless, Beijing Guoan still hoped to recall him after the expiration of the loan period, giving him a chance to prove again. However, surprisingly, Dabrow refused to return to Guoan and instead commissioned his agent to look for teams in Europe, especially Croatia.
This is certainly a heavy blow to Beijing Guoan. It's baffling that a player who couldn't be a starter in either league is disdainful of Guoan. In the eyes of the fans, Dabbro is regarded as one of the worst foreigners in the Chinese Super League, so what exactly qualifies him to belittle Guoan?
