Nine oxen take flight and glory into Sichuan!

Starry night

In the long river of soccer, Sichuan soccer has written a brilliant page

On the night of October 21st, the 28th round of the China First League came to an end, with Sichuan Jiuniu locking up the qualification for the Super League three rounds ahead of schedule, and with Rui's strike at the end of the period, they beat Liaoning Shenyang City at home by a score of 1-0 to start a brilliant seven consecutive victories.

Immediately following the match on October 22, Qingdao West Coast drew 1-1 with Shijiazhuang Kung Fu on the road, but Shijiazhuang Kung Fu's goal in the 96th minute allowed Sichuan Jiu Niu to lock up the title two rounds early, declaring "Champion of Shu" with an eight-point advantage, making this season's Jiu Niu a remarkable achievement.

Championships, a distant pursuit for Sichuan soccer

Over the years, the dream of Sichuan soccer has always been on the road

Before the professionalization of Chinese soccer in 1994, the peak of Sichuan soccer was the fifth place in the National Games, which was the glory of the Third National Games Youth Group in 1975 and the Seventh National Games Youth Group in 1989. After the dawn of the professional league, Sichuan soccer continued to impact the dream of the championship, but has never been able to a round.

In 2000, Mianyang Fenggu beat Tianjin 2-0 in the final of the Second Division League, the first national championship in Sichuan's soccer history. In 2004, Sichuan Guancheng defeated Shandong Luneng 1-2 in Changsha's Herong Stadium in the AFC Cup, and in 2007, the new Sichuan soccer team was defeated by Shanghai Dongya in the Second Division final, and was again the runner-up.

On November 5, 2018, Sichuan Annapurna, under the leadership of Li Bing, defeated Nantong Zhiyun 1-0 in the final of the Chinese B League at the Rugao Stadium in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, winning the Chinese B League title for Sichuan soccer, which is regarded as the first true national professional league title in the history of Sichuan soccer.

As for the Central League Championship, Sichuan soccer has had many brushes with it. Chengdu Sheffield United made two attempts at the title in 2007 and 2010, but both ended as runners-up, especially in the 2010 season, when they failed to win the title by just one point, which was unfortunate. Chengdu Rongcheng made another impact in the 2021 season, but are still a long way from the title.

However, the dream of Sichuan soccer should not stop here. For the first time in history, two Sichuan teams have entered the Chinese Super League, and both Chengdu Rongcheng and Sichuan Jiuniu should aim for higher goals and look forward to touching even brighter trophies in the future!
