On the night of September 20, the five bye matches of the 16th round of the 2022 Chinese Super League came to an end. Wuhan Sanzhen defeated Changchun Yatai by a thrilling 2-1 score, and at the end of the round, Sanzhen's lead over Shandong Taishan has reached seven points despite the halfway point of the campaign.

Three Town won 2-1 on the road against Yatai to equalize the number of matches against Taishan, both at 17, which is exactly half of the league schedule. Against this backdrop, Samchun lead the table with seven points ahead of Taishan. Shenhua, on the other hand, managed to reach 33 points with a 1-0 win over Meizhou at home to finish in the top three. On the contrary, Henan defeated Seaport 1-2 at home and dropped to the fourth and fifth places with Meizhou with 30 points, while Zhejiang ranked sixth with 29 points.

Seaport climbed to 28 points after the win, jumping from ninth to seventh, followed by Chengdu, Guoan and Tianjin. Yatai stayed on 19 points despite the loss, while Shenzhen equalized with Yatai with a 3-0 thrashing away to Changjiang. Dalian moved up to 13th with a 2-1 win over Hebei, while Changjiang dropped to 14th and Cangzhou remained in 15th.

In terms of the relegation zone, Guangzhou, Guangzhou City and Hebei remain unchanged in terms of points and standings.
