On May 10th, a working group jointly dispatched by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) and the preparatory team of the Chinese Football League (CFL) conducted a comprehensive research on Haikou as the main candidate for the third division of the new Chinese Super League (CSL) season. At the same time, Beijing Youth Daily disclosed that the organizers of the tournament, while communicating with Haikou, also actively contacted the relevant departments of Chengdu to explore the possibility of hosting the Chinese Super League tournament.
It is reported that the Chengdu Municipal Sports Bureau and the Football Association of the positive attitude towards the organization of the tournament, but the actual implementation of the need to wait for the approval of the local health epidemic prevention, public security and other government departments, the process takes some time. Therefore, from the point of view of the urgency of the preparatory work, Haikou as the third tournament area is more likely.
After Rizhao confirmed that it would not be able to host the first phase of the new Chinese Super League season, the Football Association and the CFL preparatory team urgently contacted other candidate cities. The first cities contacted were Haikou and Chengdu.
In fact, after the postponement of the 31st World University Games was confirmed, Chengdu City, as the host city of the event, has the time and venue conditions to host the soccer event. It is understood that the Chengdu Municipal Sports Bureau and the Football Association have also shown great enthusiasm for hosting the Super League event in their exchanges with the FA and the CFA preparatory team. Chengdu had successfully hosted the last AFC Cup final and Chengdu Rongcheng was promoted to the Chinese Super League in the new season. What's more, Chengdu's venue and weather conditions are ideal for hosting soccer events in the summer.
However, candidate cities for the tournament need to obtain approval from the local government. As of noon on May 11, the organizers have not yet learned the attitude of the local health epidemic prevention and public security departments, and the local government's mood on whether it can host the Chinese Super League is not yet clear. As a result, the organizers also said that unless the local government makes a clear statement in the next two days, it will be difficult for Chengdu to host the first phase of the Chinese Super League.
As a result, the city of Haikou, with its excellent venues and hotels, is expected to be the third city to host a Chinese Super League match in the new season. It is reported that the main challenges faced by the Haikou district include: the local climate is hot and humid during the first phase of the Super League matches. In addition, apart from the Wuyuanhe Stadium, which hosted the national football team's warm-up matches, the venues in Haikou are mainly centered on the Mission Hills base. Therefore, once it is used for Chinese Super League matches, it will still need to undergo the necessary renovations. From this point of view, the time left for the organizers to carry out specific tasks has been very tight. Decision-makers should make a quick decision on the choice of venue to ensure that the opening program can be submitted to higher authorities for approval as soon as possible.
