On March 24th, a spring day, several media outlets from Serbia broke the news that Wuhan was preparing to welcome a new face - Guralić's central midfielder, Cajević. The Montenegrin international is coming across the ocean to start his new chapter in Chinese soccer.
International football sources have revealed that Kajevic, a veteran of more than five years with Gularec, is about to say goodbye to a familiar battlefield, and Wuhan's offer is undoubtedly a fatal attraction for him.
According to insiders, the Gularets tried to retain the decorated player, but the Wuhan team's offer was too tempting for Kajevic to refuse. Team director Matijasevic confirmed the news in an interview, saying that despite the reluctance, the team knew that they could not stop the 32-year-old from pursuing his future.
Matijasevic went on to say, "It is true that Kajevic received an offer from China, and we would have liked to keep him, but the reality is that the new contract guarantees his future, and this [retention] is not realistic. However, his departure is also a testament to our team and proves that our players are noticed by the market. I wish them well as they earn their keep in foreign leagues and may even return in the future. Other players will see this and realize that at 32 years old they can still show what they can do in overseas leagues. I wouldn't bother the players in the squad if someone is willing to offer a good opportunity. In another way, it's the right thing to do."
Kajevic, 32, joined Guralich as a midfielder in July 2016 and has been an integral part of the team's starting lineup with 32 goals in over 172 appearances. This season, he has made 23 appearances, scoring seven goals and registering two assists.
The Wuhan team has been in turmoil lately, with many players publicly demanding a salary increase, but for Wuhan fans, the retention of head coach Li Jin Yu is undoubtedly good news. The team has also announced the addition of Hu Jinghang, Nie Aoshuang and Han Xuan. It is reported that Cajevic is expected to arrive in China in the next few weeks, and if all goes well, he will be expected to make his debut at the start of the Chinese Super League. (Source: DD)
