Korean media have revealed that 31-year-old Jeonbuk Hyundai star Iyotsenko's journey to the Chinese Super League appears to be hitting a rough patch.
Recently, Iyuchenko has attracted the attention of Chinese Super League teams, with Shandong Taishan and Shanghai Harbor being particularly interested in him. Although Iyuchenko was satisfied with the conditions offered by Shandong, the matter of his transfer has been quiet for ten days since then, and the exact news of the transfer has yet to be finalized.
Iyotsenko's contract is set to expire this December. Although Jeonbuk will receive a transfer fee if they lose him, his role in the team's offense and defense should not be underestimated, and his departure could have a significant impact on Jeonbuk's performance, especially given the team's current poor condition.
According to Sports Weekly, Iyotsenko was introduced to the team by Sun Junho, who played for Shandong, and has made it clear that he is eager to join the Chinese Super League. However, negotiations between Shandong and Jeonbuk have stalled, and Shandong is trying to find a new opportunity to facilitate the transfer.
Since joining the K-League in 2019, the 6-foot-89 Iyotsenko has scored nine goals in his debut season and was among the league's top scorers with 19 goals in the 2020 season. After moving to Jeonbuk last year, he helped the team win the league title with a 15-goal performance.
