Since his career with Guangzhou drew to a close, Cannavaro has been hibernating at home. In a recent interview with TMW Italia, he looked back on his coaching career in China and lamented that it was an unforgettable experience.
Speaking about his coaching career, Cannavaro admits, "The world knows me as the man of the past on the pitch, but now my identity has changed and so has the way of life in the soccer world. In the past I might have laughed at myself: 'Are you crazy, I can't be a coach', but to this day I am fascinated by this passion for coaching."
"During my years in my country, I was in charge of one of Asia's top teams and it was a time full of wonderful memories, both on and off the pitch. I taught them the finer points of European soccer and was involved in building Evergrande's new stadium. Now back in my homeland, surrounded by my family, I am looking forward to an olive branch from Europe." So said Cannavaro.
Cannavaro revealed that he has received several offers so far, including from teams in the United States, but he intends to observe for a while longer, "Since I left Italy in 2006, my experience abroad has allowed me to grow. I have held fast to the philosophy of Italian soccer and have gained a wealth of international coaching experience, and I hope to find a team, whether it be Italy or England, that will allow me to let go."
Talking about former owners Juventus, Cannavaro said, "Juve paid the price for Crowe's departure. Superstars allow their teams to make some mistakes and their goals can cover them up, and that's how Crowe plays. If Dybala and Junior Chiesa can step up, Juve can forget about Crowe's departure."
