In the 20th round of the Premier League, Brighton and Arsenal fought to a 1-1 draw at home. After the match, Brighton defender Van Hecke faced the Sky Sports camera and gave an in-depth explanation of the whole match.
"We really did well in this game," Van Hecke began, recognizing his team's performance, "despite the mistake on the defensive end that allowed the opponent to score first, but such a mistake should never happen to us. Nonetheless, the players deserve credit for their fighting spirit and determination to chase points."
He then dissected the team's lack of consistency: "We are a young team with an average age of only 23. The vigor of young players sometimes brings instability, but our players always give their best. Maybe we need more experience to control the game better, but I believe that with experience, we will become more mature and stable."
Van Hecke also pointed to Arsenal's goal: "The opposing player, Nwaneri, was left unguarded on the right and that led directly to their goal. As a team, we should have done better and implemented more effective containment of their offense."
Despite the failure to win, Van Hecke is confident about the team's future: "In some aspects, we have shown our strength and potential. Consistency is what we need to focus on, and as long as we can keep playing consistently and well in the upcoming games, I'm sure we can get back to the top."
