On the Stick to Football podcast, Gary Neville was full of praise for Welbeck's recent excellent performances. He stated that Welbeck's form has surpassed that of any striker in United's squad, and was convinced that United had made a mistake in letting him go. Roy Keane was sharply opposed to this, seriously questioning Neville's views and emphasizing that it cannot simply be deduced that players deserve to stay in the first place based on their excellent performances since leaving the club.
Neville is not budging on this and is convinced that if United want to maintain a 24-man squad and intend to keep five or six strikers, Welbeck will undoubtedly be a key player. Keane, however, disagreed, pointing out that just because a player leaves the club and goes on to a great career, it doesn't mean they have the qualities to survive at a top club like United. The debate over the player's stay and departure, sparked by the two former United stars, is getting more and more heated, with both sides taking a firm stance.
