On August 8th, an official announcement from Thailand's Chiang Rai United cast a ray of light on Guo Tianyu's career. Talking about the future of this young player, veteran reporter Pei Li unabashedly pointed out that although the Football Association's banned list has not yet been revealed, Guo Tianyu's ability to continue to play in foreign fields seems to have been closely linked to this list.

Pei Li revealed: "Guo Tianyu has completed a period of training in Qingdao West Coast, the heart of the desire to return to the Chinese Super League, but because of the failure to fulfill the completion of the contract and encountered registration problems. Currently, the CFA has not yet announced the list of banned players, but the list is already in place. Once on the list, Guo Tianyu will no longer be able to play in any CFA-sponsored soccer tournament. Whether or not he will be able to gain a foothold in Asian competitions will depend on how far the FA escalates its banning measures."

Since the April 21, 2023 Chinese Super League match between Shandong Taishan and Nantong Zhiyun, Guo Tianyu has disappeared from the public eye. Rumors have been swirling about him, including rumors involving a match-fixing controversy, and if that's the case, a ban in domestic soccer is inevitable.
