Brighton and Arsenal drew 1-1 in the 20th round of the English Premier League on January 5th. After the match, Brighton's manager Hülzeler faced the camera of Radio 5 and analyzed the whole match in detail.
Hülzeler began with a hint of disappointment: "We have believed on many occasions that we deserved to win, but today we were once again drawn, which is certainly a source of frustration. Our performance lacked consistency, we were not a constant threat to our opponents and we were not able to maintain the intensity of the second half during the 90 minutes. We were also hesitant to capitalize on goal-scoring opportunities. We must step up our game, reflect deeply and realize that we bear a great deal of responsibility for the result."
However, Hülzeler also saw the bright side of his team, "Arsenal didn't create much of a threat, and their goal was only a shot on target. This shows that we still have something to build on the defensive side of the ball, but stability is the key thing we need to improve on, only then can we win more."
Speaking about the controversial penalty call, Hülzeler said firmly: "It was an unquestionable penalty and the referee made no mistake in his decision."
When it comes to the heart of the team, João Pedro, Hülzeler speaks highly of him: "He has had a tough time, but we always believed in him. He is one of the leaders of our team and an integral part of the leadership. When Dunk was injured today, he stepped up to captain the team and showed his strength and leadership. Not only did he score the game-tying goal, but more importantly he showed how to lead this young team forward. He is a role model and has been impeccable, whether it is giving his all on defense, aggressively rebounding or getting back quickly."
Looking ahead to the coming matches, Hülzeler emphasized the need for the team to put in more effort: "We expect the team to be in better shape and sharper in their reactions, so we have to break new ground both physically and mentally. This will require a concerted effort from all of our players and staff, with hard training and preparation to ensure that we are ready for the upcoming matches."
