When Sun Jun-ho falls into the dark abyss of detention, what secrets lie behind his swift confession? He confesses that it was out of sheer desperation and the onslaught of depression that compelled him to bow his head and confess in exchange for a glimpse of regaining his freedom. Under the reflection of the barred window, his fear and helplessness overflowed, even as the shadow of depression loomed over him. He recalled that it was bone-chillingly cold in the detention room, with a room temperature of minus 25 degrees Celsius that allowed him to take only cold showers, but in order to keep his soccer dreams alive, he had to succumb to those petty and insignificant offenses. Some have accused him of trying to gain sympathy with the intention of smearing others in order to seek forgiveness from the South Koreans. However, one thing seems indisputable: facing the harsh reality of losing his freedom was the deeper reason for his quick confession.

What happened to Sun Junhao gives us an insight into why Li Tie, Chen Xuyuan, Du Zhaocai and others made full confessions after a short period of detention. The loss of freedom is such a cruel test of human nature that it becomes the weakest link in human nature. Once you lose your freedom, despair follows you, and it is hard for anyone to stay awake under such oppression. Chen Xuyuan's tears and remorse are the best proof: "If there is really a pill of regret, I would exchange my life for it, and I will never make this mistake again." These words speak of their helplessness and remorse in the midst of despair.
